Neogothic in the heart of Podgórze

Kraków, PL

A place worth visiting is the neo-Gothic building in the Old Podgórze – the Church of St. Joseph. It is a historic Roman Catholic church, standing out from the surrounding buildings.

The interior is filled with numerous altars and wooden elements. The first thing that attracts our attention is the floor that looks like a chessboard. The main altar can be walked around, it is worth paying attention to the organ. In the church there are relics of St. Padre Pio among other.

Tips for visitors:

  • It is worth taking into account that the church fulfills its original function. Masses and weddings are held there, so it is worth planning the visit rather in the middle of the week and avoiding visiting during Catholic holidays.
  • If we are taking photos or recording videos, it is worth remembering not to use the flash. Light affects monuments, but it can also disturb the people inside the church. Let’s be quiet and respect the culture, religion and specificity of the place.

The church can be reached by a well-developed public transport or by car (however, all parking spaces in the area are paid).

You can also get to the area of Krak’s Mound and walk towards the church. There is also a park and numerous cafes near the church. In front of the building there is the Podgórze Square with numerous benches where you can relax.
