When I arrived in Toronto in early spring 2019 I didn’t have high expectations when it comes to the city structure. I had some images in my head of how I picture Canada to be, pictures from the Internet or from movies. It wasn’t a deciding factor, will tell you what it was one day. I remember sitting in the passenger seat when on the way to my place, I was staring at much bigger buildings than the ones I was used to in Europe. It wasn’t shocking but definitely felt different. Was late night, bunch of lights all over, passing by the CN Tower was the moment I started believing I’m there for real.
When you land at Pearson International Airport in Toronto you’re so exhausted that the only thing you can think of is sleep. All the excitement about adventure is muffled by physical and mental effort that you put into travelling practically 24h (if you don’t live in a city with direct flights).
You still got long hallway to go and 2 checkpoints. First you go thru checkpoint where you show your passport and any other documentation needed. Next, you go get your luggage and then another checkpoint. And you’re good to go! “Welcome to Canada!” That’s what you usually hear. Walk thru the big door and you enter Canada for real.
